A new group of bareback riders made their first of three appearances here on Wednesday night and the leader of the pack couldn’t have been any happier. Heath Ford, originally from Greeley, Colo., but now living in Slocum, Texas, was 81 points on J Bar J Rodeo’s Pass the Hat, currently tied for second place in the round with Evan Jayne from Marseille, France. The solid score is giving Ford some enthusiasm to come back here and ride again Thursday night and Friday afternoon.

Skoal’s Frontier – also known as Gold Coast Skoal – passed away at the Powder River Ranch in Riverton, Wyo., on Jan. 14. Frontier was 29 years old and died of an apparent heart attack.
Frontier and three-time PRCA Bareback Horse of the Year Khadafy attended their first pro rodeo in Belle Fourche, S.D. in 1989, were lifelong friends and retired at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo together in 2004. Khadafy was standing over his friend in the pasture when he was found.
