SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo Finals set for Saturday is shaping up to be a family affair.

The first semi-finals bracket was completed here Wednesday night with brothers advancing to the final round in saddle bronc riding and tie-down roping. The reigning National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association saddle bronc riding champion Jacobs Crawley and his younger brother Sterling Crawley tied for second place in the second round to each earn $1,228. That money added to their previous earnings earned them both spots in Saturday night’s finals. Jacobs graduated from Texas A&M University in December, just days after competing at his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Sterling is still in college at Sam Houston State University. They were raised in Stephenville but both now call College Station home.

Jacobs is tied for second place with former Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) world champion Jeff Willert with $5,158. Sterling who was last year’s Rookie of the Year in the PRCA, edged into fifth place with $3,684. The high-money earner in the saddle bronc riding was Bradley Harter from Weatherford, Texas, who will enter the finals with $5,649.

In the tie-down roping, it was brothers Clif and Clint Cooper, from Decatur, Texas, who advanced. Clif finished second in the round Wednesday and tied for second in the standings with Jake Pratt from Ellensburg, Wash. They each have $4,421. Clint finished in a tie for fourth place with Houston Hutto from Tomball, Texas, with $3,439. Justin Maass,, from Giddings, Texas, leads the standings with $4,912.

The biggest money winner here so far is bareback rider Tilden Hooper from Carthage, Texas. He was first and second respectively in the semi-finals and heads into the finals with a total of $6,878.

The second semi-finals will see two rounds of competition starting in the AT&T Center on Thursday night. The field of 10 will again be narrowed to the five highest money winners who will advance to Saturday night’s finals where the lion’s share of $1.2 million in prize money will be paid.
Rodeo action gets underway at 7 p.m. Thursday.
