Rough Stock Events take the spotlight at Friday’s FWSSR

FORT WORTH, Texas --- Kaycee Feild, took the lead in the first round of the bareback riding more than 20 performances ago and this year he made it stick.

Feild scored 85 points on Andrews Rodeo Company’s horse Vodka in the first weekend of competition at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum.  It was looking like a repeat performance from 2009, when Feild held the lead in all three goes, but was knocked out in the last few performances by 2004 World Champion Kelly Timberman.

This year the second generation cowboy from Payson, Utah is making good on his goal to stay strong throughout the go rounds and not mess-up in the final round. Currently Feild is splitting the lead in the average with none other than last year’s nemesis Timberman, both with 249 points.

“I feel good, and more importantly I’m mentally strong this year,” said Feild.

This year could be the Feild v. Timberman match as the two currently split second place in the second go and Timberman leads the third round with Feild splitting second.

The saddle bronc riding also saw some movement as Bold Binx Butler had the highest marked rides in both performances Friday.  The Leamington, Utah cowboy rode two Western Trails Rodeo horses for 83 and 80 points totaling 163, enough to take over third place in the average.  With three groups left to compete, Butler is sitting in a nice spot to come back to the final round, Sunday, Feb., 7th at 7:30 p.m.

Not to be shown up by the other rough stock events, the bull riding also saw a lead change in the first go as Corey McFaddin of Coleman, Texas, spurred David Bailey’s bull Teddy for 84 points and moved into the second spot of the first go round.  Although McFaddin has a good chance of receiving a prize money check for the first go, it is unlikely his score on only one will get him back here for the finals.  Currently only seven bull riders have qualified on both of their bulls.

WPRA barrel racer Tanna Poppino, set the second go around pace with a run of 16.73 seconds in Friday afternoon’s performance.  This is the fastest time of the 2010 Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo and puts Poppino in the lead with 33.72 seconds on two runs.

The time is ticking down as there are only three performances left until the top 12 of each event are determined and head to the champion round Sunday evening.

Saturday performances of the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo are at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
